This is an attractive jardinière or cachepot from the ‘Maple’ suite, designed by Reginald Thompson and dating to between the 1960s and 1980s.
The sides have a slight taper and the rim is oval in shape. It stands on a tapering plinth. The body has a moulded pattern of short vertical staggered impressed lines, with a sprig of maple moulded in relief. This is applied to both sides of the jardinière. The predominant colour is cream; the leaves are highlighted in autumn colours, and the plinth is chocolate brown.
The base is impressed with the words ‘SYLVAC MADE IN ENGLAND’ and the number ‘4001’.
It has a height of approximately 13.1cm, with a length across the rim of about 24.0cm and a width of about 8.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 960g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although the glaze has fine crazing all over.
