This is a highly attractive salad bowl from the ‘Magnolia’ range produced by Carlton Ware.
The bowl is lenticular in shape, tapering in towards the base. It is glazed in a dusty peach colour, which is paler in the centre. There is a stylised magnolia and branch motif moulded in relief; this has been hand-painted.
The base is marked in the centre with the words ‘HANDPAINTED MADE IN ENGLAND TRADEMARK REGISTERED AUSTRALIAN DESIGN’. In addition, there is an impressed pattern number at the edge which reads ‘2595’.
It has a height of approximately 7.5cm, with a length at the rim of 27.0cm and a width of 21.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 640g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some minor crazing to the glaze.
