This is a classic piece of Whitefriars glass designed by Marriott Powell and dating to the 1950s.
The vase is approximately bucket-shaped, widening out towards the rim. It is made from ruby-encased glass and is moulded with bands of swags. The base is thickened with a central polished pontil.
This vase has the pattern number 8473 and was produced in four different sizes, ranging from 6 inches to 12 inches high. This is the second largest in the range at about 10 inches high. An example of these can be seen on page 1 of the 1957 Whitefriars catalogue.
It has a height of approximately 24.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 16.7cm and across the base of about 12.3cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1280g.
This piece is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a couple of enclosed bubbles and pieces of frit within the glass.
