This is a nice example of a classic Whitefriars design, dating to the mid-20th century.
It has a rounded rim, which is pinched in four places. This gives it a quatrefoil lobed effect. The bulbous upper portion tapers in towards the lobed base. The latter is thickened, with a central polished pontil.
It is made from ruby glass, encased in a thick layer of flint (clear) crystal.
This piece has the pattern number 9410 and can be seen on page 10 of the 1964 Whitefriars catalogue.
It has a height of approximately 13.8cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 11.0cm and a maximum width across the base of about 6.0cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1230g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some wear and tear scratches to the body and base commensurate with age.
