This is a highly unusual example of a classic 1950s design by Whitefriars Glass.
The vase has a wide, domed foot, above which is a teardrop-shaped knop enclosing a bubble. There is a solid ‘neck’, continuous with the knop, which then sweeps out to become the hollow tapering bowl.
This bud vase has the pattern number 9284 and can be found on both page 13 of the 1957 catalogue and page 16 of the 1964 catalogue. Because the production of this size bud vase only ran for a handful of years, it makes it an unusual and desirable piece.
It has a height of approximately 40.8cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 4.8cm and across the foot of about 10.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 350g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. although there are some wear and tear scratches to the bowl and underside of the foot commensurate with age and use. There is also the odd enclosed bubble and blemish within the glass, which are manufacturing artefacts.
