This is a classic example of a ruby glass bud vase produced by Whitefriars in the 1960s and 1970s.
The vase has an elongated upper portion made from ruby glass. It widens out as it approaches the rounded base. This sits on a discoid collar made from flint (clear) glass, which widens out to form a waisted portion before merging with the domed foot. The latter is unmarked.
This piece has the pattern number 9604 and can be seen on page 4 of the 1966 Whitefriars catalogue. There were three sizes produced in this design; this is the smallest.
It has a height of approximately 19.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 4.3cm and across the foot of about 6.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 230g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few enclosed bubbles within the ruby glass.
