Whitefriars Glass Small Ruby Glass Jug with Clear Handle No. 9649 c.1960s

This is a classic example of a ruby glass jug produced by Whitefriars in the 1960s and 1970s.

The jug is made from ruby red coloured glass and has an angled, drawn spout. There is a short neck which widens out to form a broad shoulder, below which the body narrows in again to meet the thickened base. The latter has a central polished pontil.

The flint (clear) glass handle has been separately applied in clear glass in the ‘celery stalk’ style.

This piece has the pattern number 9649 and can be seen on page 8 of the 1966 Whitefriars catalogue.

It has a maximum height (to the lip) of approximately 10.8cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 4.3cm and across the base of about 3.0cm.

It has an unwrapped weight of 210g.

It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
