This is a good example of a Whitefriars Glass controlled bubble paperweight.
It has an enclosed controlled bubble pattern, with the bubbles diminishing in size from the base of the paperweight to the top. The base is flat with a central polished pontil.
This particular design of Whitefriars paperweight first appeared in 1949 and was made in various colours. This style of paperweight can be found on Page 8 of the 1964 Whitefriars catalogue with the pattern number 9308.
It has a height of approximately 6.5cm and a maximum diameter of about 7.5cm. This equates to the smaller size of paperweight from this range; the catalogue lists this as 3 inches in diameter.
It has an unwrapped weight of 520g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is the odd wear and tear scratch to the base commensurate with age.
