This is a highly attractive relish or condiment pot by Jersey Pottery.
It is cylindrical in form, with a slight taper towards the top. The decoration consists of stylised mushrooms on a chocolate brown base over the white ceramic body. Detail is added by scratching through the glaze to form white lines (sgraffito). There is a white stripe around the base and the top of the pot.
The lid is undecorated and has a central plain, slightly tapering knop. There is a notch at the edge of the lid to allow space for a spoon.
The base is marked with the words ‘Jersey Pottery C. I.’ which is painted freehand in black glaze.
The height of the pot to the top of the lid is approximately 9.5cm. It has a diameter across the base of about 11.0cm and across the top of about 9.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 360g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is a manufacturing artefact in the form of a glaze defect and slight ‘running’ of the glaze near the bottom of the decorated band. This has been caused during the dipping of the object into the glaze and results from a finger encroaching on the glazed area. There is also some crazing to the glaze, which is more apparent in the white sections, and a small stain on the inside of the base.
