This is a set of six high-quality cut lead crystal port or sherry glasses produced by Edinburgh Crystal.
The tapering bowl is cut with a continuous band of six large crosses, the upper and lower limbs of which come into close approximation. In the diamond-shaped panel thus formed is a lattice formed from two pairs of parallel lines. Above the centre of each large cross is a three-pointed fan cut. The lower part of the bowl is decorated with a ring of six angulated wedge cuts.
There is a discoid collar at the junction of the bowl and the baluster-shaped stem. The foot is plain and marked in the centre with the words ‘EDINBURGH MADE IN SCOTLAND’. Three of the six glasses have a rectangle around the mark (see pictures), which I assume happened during manufacture.
Each glass has a height of approximately 10.2cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.0cm and across the foot of about 5.3cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 90ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 630g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some wear and tear scratches to the bowls and feet commensurate with age and use.
