This is a highly ornate example of a moulded glass bowl-on-stand or comport (compote), probably British in origin and dating to the latter part of the 19th century.
The capacious bowl has a flared and notched rim. It is moulded with a complex design consisting of crosses, raised diamonds and circular depressions. The bowl sits on a thick discoid knop and a short baluster-shaped stem. The latter is moulded with panels to give the illusion that it has been cut. The foot is domed and moulded with the same pattern as the bowl. The underside is hollow and unmarked.
It has a height of approximately 17.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 15.5cm and across the foot of about 10.3cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1000g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some wear and tear scratches to the bowl and foot commensurate with age. In addition, there are a few enclosed bubbles and pieces of frit, as well as roughened mould lines which are to be expected from mass-produced pieces from this era.
