This is a pair of high-quality cut lead crystal whisky tumblers or ‘rummers’ from the ‘Hamilton’ suite produced by Stuart Crystal.
The cylindrical bowl is thickened at the base. It is cut with a band of nine large crosses, the upper and lower limbs of which come into close approximation. The peaks and troughs of the upper margin are decorated with a vertical mitre cut. Within the diamond-shaped panels formed between adjacent crosses, and below the centre of each cross, is a lattice formed from raised diamonds.
The base is star cut in the centre and marked on the side with the word ‘STUART’.
In addition, the glasses bear their original hexagonal blue and silver labels, which read ‘STUART CRYSTAL MADE IN GT. BRITAIN’.
The glasses come in their original dark blue satin presentation box. This has a small dent on the underside (see pictures).
These glasses were from the ‘Hamilton Presentation Collection’ and are referred to as a ‘Box of 2 Rummers’. They have the pattern number 31309/581.
Each glass has a height of approximately 8.4cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.8cm and across the base of about 6.9cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 225ml.
They have an unwrapped weight (including the box) of 910g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although, as previously mentioned, there is some wear to the box.
