This is a stunning and highly unusual example of a handmade paperweight by the renowned American glass artist, David P. Salazar.
The paperweight is of flattened globular form, with an iridescent frosted exterior and random blue glass trailing or strapping. The top is polished flat, revealing the enclosed underwater scene of shells, plants, and coral, with two stylised angelfish in the foreground.
The base is polished flat like the top, and is engraved at the edge with ‘D. P. SALAZAR’ and the date ‘4/97’.
This style of faceted paperweight was confirmed as being ‘special’ by David Salazar in an email, as this form has been discontinued.
It has a height of approximately 6.1cm and a width of about 8.2cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 460g.
It is in good condition, although there is a small graze to the blue glass trailing on the exterior. This is only noticeable on close inspection, but this wear is reflected in the price.
