This is a classic example of a handmade glass paperweight from the French company Biot, which was founded in 1956.
The paperweight is made from a dark pinkish-purple shade of glass, which is listed on the current Biot website as ‘Amethyst’. It encases a combination of large and small bubbles.
The base of the paperweight is flat, with a central rough pontil mark. Around the edge of the base, it is etched with the word ‘BIOT’.
It has a height of approximately 7.0cm and a width of about 8.0cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 670g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some scratches to the body and underside commensurate with age and use.
