This is a striking piece of English porcelain dating to the Art Deco period.
The bowl has a flattened rim that has a lightly scalloped edge and is moulded with two handles, with their detail being highlighted in gilt. Within this rim, there is a transfer-printed band of polychromatic stylised flowers and geometric designs. At the innermost edge of this design, there is a band of small dots in yellow.
The remainder of the bowl is rounded and plain and sits on a raised foot rim. The underside is marked in green with the word ‘ENGLAND’, and in red with the number ‘154’.
It has a maximum height of approximately 6.3cm, with a width (from handle to handle) of 25.2cm and a diameter across the base of 11.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 590g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some minor scratches to the transfer print, as well as some small marks on the white portion commensurate with use. There is also a firing crack on the underside of one of the handles. This is a manufacturing flaw but I mention it for the sake of completion.
