This is a beautifully decorated ceramic charger, probably originating from Japan and dating to the 20th century.
The piece has a traditional motif featuring a bird about to land on a willow bough. The piece is hand-painted, and the feathers of the bird have a textured appearance. The feet, beak, and some of the leaves are highlighted in gilt.
The foot rim is unglazed, revealing the underlying ceramic body to be white earthenware. There is no sign of a maker’s mark.
It has a diameter across the rim of approximately 26.5cm and a depth of about 4.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 970g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
