This is a classic example of a stylish glass flower vase produced by Whitefriars Glass and dating to the 1960s.
The vase is made from ruby red glass encased in a layer of flint (clear) glass. It is approximately ovoid in shape, tapering in towards the base. There is a narrow aperture at the top of the vase. The body is horizontally ribbed, giving it an ‘optic’ effect. The thickened base is flat with a central polished pontil.
This piece has pattern number 9585 and appears on page 11 of the 1964 Whitefriars catalogue.
It has a height of approximately 13.4cm, with a diameter across the opening of 5.0cm and across the base of about 5.3cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 920g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few wear and tear scratches to the body and base commensurate with age and use.
