This is a nice example of a large flower vase, possibly designed by William Wilson and produced by Whitefriars Glass.
The vase is made from thick yellow glass known as ‘golden amber’. It has four lobes at the base that extend upwards to create a tapering, bucket-shaped vase. It is decorated with a controlled, encased bubble design.
The thickened base is polished flat, which gives it a quatrefoil shape, with a central polished pontil.
This vase has the pattern number 9117 and can be seen on page 4 of the 1957 Whitefriars catalogue.
The vase has a height of approximately 17.8cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 16.7cm and across the base of about 8.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1980g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few scratches on the base of the interior that are visible on close inspection. This wear is consistent with use but is reflected in the price.
