This is a classic example of a large ceramic jug from the ‘Cornishware’ range produced by T. G. Green.
The jug is of classic tapering form, widening out towards the base. It is moulded with five broad circumferential bands, the top, middle and bottom being glazed in blue. The spout is drawn out from the rim. The handle is strap-like and white. It sits centrally on the body.
The interior is glazed in white.
The base is marked in black in the centre with the church logo and the words ‘T. G. GREEN LTD. CHURCH GRESLEY MADE IN ENGLAND’. This mark was in use from the 1970s to the 1980s.
This style of jug is still in production and is more commonly referred to as a ‘Dreadnought’ jug.
It has a height of approximately 12.4cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 10.3cm and across the base of about 12.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 750g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a number of flaws within the glaze. The most obvious is just above the base, near the handle, where the glaze is stippled where it has touched something whilst being fired. In addition, there are a few wear and tear scratches to the glaze commensurate with use. These flaws are reflected in the price.
