This is a fine example of a cut lead crystal wine goblet produced by Stuart Crystal and dating to the 1920s.
The goblet has a plain, pan-shaped upper portion, which has been cut with a band of elongated oval cuts. About halfway down the bowl, it steps inwards and the base of the bowl is formed from five rings. There is a discoid collar at the junction of the bowl and the short, bulbous baluster stem.
The foot is plain and marked in the centre with the words ‘RD. 681270 STUART’. This registered number is attributed to Stuart & Sons Ltd and was first registered on 21st February 1921.
The pattern number for this suite is 21694, which I recently discovered on a trip to the Red House Glass Cone in Stourbridge. There is a poster on the wall in the museum, which shows this and two other suites described as ‘Georgian Style’.
The glass has a height of approximately 12.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 9.5cm and across the base of about 7.7cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 325ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 320g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some fine wear and tear scratches to the bowl commensurate with use.
