This is a nice example of a soda glass comport or footed bonbon dish dating to the latter quarter of the 19th century.
The wide bowl is decorated with a series of seventeen thumb cuts, arranged around the circumference. The bowl joins the stem with a flattened, discoid collar, which tapers inwards before flaring out to form a broad, baluster-shaped stem with a large enclosed bubble. This then meets the foot at a further flattened discoid collar. The foot is plain, discoid, and bears the remains of a central ‘Y’ or ‘T’ shaped tool mark.
It has a height of approximately 13.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 12.5cm and across the foot of about 8.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 310g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few wear and tear scratches on the body and foot. There are also a few scattered bubbles and striations throughout the glass, which are manufacturing artefacts and should be expected in pieces of this age and quality.
