This is a set of six high-quality cut lead crystal port or sherry glasses made by the Richardson Glassworks and dating to the early 20th century.
The tall, capacious bowl is decorated with a band of four large crosses, the centre of which is surmounted by a three-pointed fan. Below the centre of the cross is a V cut, the limbs of which extend up to meet the limbs of the large cross. This creates a small kite-shaped panel, which is filled with a lattice of fine needle cuts, and two isosceles triangles, which each contain an elongated wedge cut. Between adjacent large crosses is a further inverted kite-shaped panel, which contains a lattice formed from two pairs of diagonal lines.
There is a small discoid collar at the junction of the bowl and the plain, straight stem. The latter merges with the plain, flat foot. This is marked in the centre with the word ‘RICHARDSONS’.
Each glass has a height of approximately 11.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 4.8cm and across the foot of about 5.3cm. There are minor variations in height and conformation between the glasses due to their handmade nature.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 70ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 430g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
