This is a stylish retro ceramic jug from the ‘Concorde Astra’ range produced by Crown Ducal.
The lower part of the body is approximately cylindrical and has a moulded pattern of circles with geometric designs alternating with ‘V’ shapes. Above this, the body tapers in towards the rim, which is vertical and has a repeat of the moulded ‘V’ shapes. The handle is strap-shaped and angular.
The whole is glazed in a brown shade, although the tapered part of the jug has a random pattern created by streaks of white glaze flowing into the brown.
The base is marked in the centre with a transfer-printed representation of the moulded design encircling the words ‘CROWN DUCAL CONCORDE ASTRA HANDCRAFTED OVEN TO TABLEWARE STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND’.
It has a maximum height of approximately 12.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 9.9cm and across the base of about 10.1cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to just below the rim) of 700ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 480g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some crazing to the glaze commensurate with age.
