This is a pair of high-quality dip-moulded lead crystal tumblers in the ‘Cascade’ design, produced by Thomas Webb from around 1900.
The bowl is ogee-shaped and is decorated with a dip-moulded pattern consisting of six sets of ‘swags’, which diminish in size as they approach the base. The bowl sits on a plain, discoid foot, which is unmarked.
The early Thomas Webb ‘Optical Surface Effects’ are illustrated on page 433 of the book ‘British Glass 1800 – 1914’ by Charles R. Hajdamach.
Each glass has a height of approximately 8.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.0cm and across the foot of about 7.4cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 235ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 440g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some wear and tear scratches to the bowls commensurate with age.
