This is a pair of high-quality cut lead crystal brandy glasses from the ‘Contemporary’ range by Edinburgh Crystal.
The balloon-shaped bowl is cut with a band of six crosses, each made up of two pairs of parallel lines. The point where adjacent crosses meet is surmounted by a vertical mitre cut. The centre of each cross is surmounted by a three-pointed fan cut. Within the diamond-shaped panels formed between adjacent crosses is a lattice of raised diamonds.
The bowl merges with the plain, straight stem and star-cut foot. The latter is marked on the edge with the words ‘EDINBURGH CRYSTAL’.
In addition, each glass bears the original rectangular black and purple label, which reads ‘EDINBURGH CRYSTAL CONTEMPORARY’ and bears the lion rampant logo.
Although these glasses are labelled as ‘Contemporary’, I have as yet been unable to ascertain the pattern name.
Each glass has a height of approximately 12.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.3cm and across the foot of about 6.9cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 325ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 420g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
