This is a pair of high-quality cut lead crystal sherry glasses from the ‘Salisbury’ suite, introduced by Stuart Crystal in 1964.
The bowl is cut with a band of ten (10) leaf-shaped wedge cuts around the base. Between adjacent cuts is an elongated three-limbed fan cut. The bowl merges with the tapering stem, which sits on the plain, flat foot.
The foot is marked in the centre with the words ‘STUART ENGLAND’. This particular mark was in use from 1950.
This cutting was also used on the ‘Lichfield’ suite, which was introduced in 1986. The difference between the two is that the ‘Lichfield’ suite sherry glasses are recorded in the Stuart Crystal catalogues as being 164mm tall, and the ‘Salisbury’ sherry glasses are 149mm tall.
Each glass has a height of approximately 14.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.9cm and across the foot of about 5.7cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 85ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 240g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
