This is a pair of high-quality cut lead crystal liqueur glasses from the ‘Salisbury’ suite, introduced by Stuart Crystal in 1964.
The bowl is cut with a band of nine leaf-shaped wedge cuts around the base. Between adjacent cuts is an elongated three-limbed fan cut. The bowl merges with the tapering stem, which sits on the plain, flat foot.
The foot is marked in the centre with the word ‘STUART’.
This cutting was also used on the ‘Lichfield’ suite, which was introduced in 1986. The difference between the two is that the ‘Lichfield’ suite liqueur glasses are recorded in the Stuart Crystal catalogues as being 135mm tall, and the ‘Salisbury’ sherry glasses are 114mm tall.
Each glass has a height of approximately 11.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 4.6cm and across the foot of about 4.7cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 40ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 160g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. The feet have the occasional ‘notch’ out of the edge, which is in line with the cutting on the bowl and is consistent with brushing the cutting wheel during manufacture.
