This is a classic example of a mid-century glass duck figure produced on the Isle of Murano in Venice, Italy.
The duck has a red and orange core and is encased in a thick layer of clear (flint) glass. This has been crimped and manipulated to form a wide-open beak, eyes, flared wings and a tail. The technique of encasing numerous layers of glass is referred to as ‘Sommerso’.
The piece sits on a thickened, discoid base which has been crimped with segments of small impressed squares. The underside is plain and unmarked.
It has a maximum height of approximately 22.3cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 670g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
