This is a striking example of a glass paperweight produced by Okra Glass, which was founded in 1979 and produced in Brierley Hill, England.
The paperweight is solid and has a striking mottled peach and pink base tone with a matte finish. This is then streaked with an iridescent blue shade which has a shiny finish.
The base is polished flat and has a central polished pontil. It has a matte finish. The base bears the original oval-shaped silver and blue sticker, which reads ‘OKRA ENGLAND’.
The 1999 Okra Glass catalogue shows on page 28 a selection of ‘Random Paperweights’. They are supplied in certain sizes and shapes but the designs themselves are random. This piece corresponds to the small paperweight size, which has the product code ‘560’, and is listed as two inches.
It has a height of about 5.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 300g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
