This is a pair of high-quality cut lead crystal brandy glasses from the ‘Serenade’ suite by Edinburgh Crystal International.
The capacious bowl tapers in towards the rim to give the classic brandy balloon shape. It is cut with two sets of three swags that are staggered with respect to one another. Each swag is made up of two curved lines. At the point where adjacent swags meet it forms a cross. This intersection is surmounted by a five-limbed fan cut. On the uppermost limbs of the swags, there is a vertical wedge cut. The base of the bowl is cut with a series of twelve vertical wedge cuts.
The stem and foot are plain; the latter bears the original purple and silver label that reads ‘MADE IN FRANCE’. Beneath this, the foot is marked with the words ‘EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL’. In addition, the bowl of each glass bears the remains of the purple and silver diamond-shaped label that reads ‘EDINBURGH CRYSTAL’.
The glasses come in their original Edinburgh Crystal International purple satin-lined display box.
Each glass has a height of approximately 12.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.3cm and across the foot of about 7.2cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 360ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 530g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is minor wear to the labels and the original box.
