This is a nice example of a piece of 19th-century comital ephemera.
The plate has an undulating rim and is moulded with a radiating ribbed effect from the centre. The plate steps in towards the central circular portion. It has a polished pontil on the underside and is unmarked.
It is decorated with a complex wheel-engraved monogram of the letters ‘S F D’ surmounted by a nine-pearl coronet. This would suggest that this piece was part of a set owned by a Count or comital family.
It has a diameter of approximately 20.9cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 250g.
It is in good condition for its age, with no chips or cracks, although there are numerous fine scratches to the tops of the moulded ribs as well as the underside, commensurate with age and use. This wear is reflected in the price.
