This is a stunning example of a handmade bud or weed vase produced by Graham Newing when he was based in Wiltshire.
The vase has a contemporary form, with a fine, thin rim which tapers in to merge with the narrow neck. This then widens out to meet the elongated, ovoid body.
The vase is glazed with a pale cream shade at the rim, which blends with a sandy shade below the shoulder, and then a pale sage green in the lower half of the body. This glaze has a slightly gritty texture and a low-sheen finish.
The base is unglazed, revealing a white porcelain body. Although Graham Newing is predominantly known for his stonewares, it is documented that he made individual pieces in porcelain and that he continued to do so when he left Wiltshire in 2006 for Pembrey.
The base is impressed with a cross contained within a semicircle, which is Graham Newing’s pottery mark.
The vase has a height of approximately 17.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 3.0cm and across the base of about 4.0cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 270g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
