This is a nice example of a retro floor vase in the ‘Foligno’ pattern by Scheurich Keramik.
The wide rim is moulded with three circumferential bands, which taper in to form the neck. This then widens out to form a broad shoulder. This is decorated with a band of impressed vertical lines. The handle is applied at the shoulder, with the upper attachment being on the lowermost band at the rim.
The body is cylindrical and is decorated with three bands of stylised floral motifs which are interspersed with bands of impressed circles, vertical lines, and triangles just above the base.
The interior is glazed in a dark brown shade, which can be seen through the paler beige-coloured glaze at the rim and shoulder. It is also shown on the handle. This upper section has a speckled effect and a matte finish. The foliate designs on the body are glazed in a glossy tan shade, while the remaining space between is glazed in dark brown or beige speckled, which has a matte finish.
The underside of the base is glazed in a glossy dark brown and is moulded with the words ‘W. GERMANY’ and the number ‘489-39’.
It has a height of approximately 39.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 12.0cm and across the base of about 19.7cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 3100g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is a very minute flake out of the glaze on one of the foliate sections. This measures approximately 2mm and is only visible on close inspection.
