This is a very attractive hand-thrown posy vase by Alun and Jayne Jenkins of Ewenny Pottery, Bridgend, Mid Glamorgan, Wales.
The upper portion is of flattened oval form with an inverted rim. The base of the bowl merges imperceptibly with the short cylindrical stem, which is hollow. There is a discoid foot that has a folded rim.
The brown and blue-grey glaze appears to have been applied in a number of layers and allowed to coalesce and flow to give a mottled, almost marbleised, effect.
The underside of the foot has been incised with the words ‘EWENNY POTTERY’. This particular mark was in use from the inception of the pottery in 1970 until 1992, when the word ‘WALES’ was added.
It has a height of approximately 8.8cm, with a maximum length of about 12.8cm and a maximum width of about 8.5cm. The foot has a diameter of 7.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 320g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
