This is a high-quality cut lead crystal brandy glass from the ‘Montrose’ suite by Edinburgh Crystal.
The balloon-shaped bowl is cut around the centre with eight large crosses, the upper and lower limbs of which come into close approximation. A wide wedge cut surmounts the centre of each cross. The diamond-shaped panel formed between adjacent crosses contains a large central cross with elongated lower limbs that bisect the limbs of the larger cross to create a diamond-shaped panel below its centre. The large and small panels contain cross-cut diamonds.
The bowl sits on a plain, short stem and a star-cut foot. The latter is marked at the edge with the words ‘EDINBURGH CRYSTAL’.
In addition, the glass bears the original purple diamond-shaped label, which shows the lion rampant emblem above the words ‘EDINBURGH CRYSTAL EST 1867’.
It has a height of approximately 12.4cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.2cm and across the foot of about 6.8cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 325ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 240g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
