This is a nice example of a glass pickle jar dating to the early 20th century.
The jar has a thickened, everted rim that is polished flat. This sits on the short, cylindrical neck, which then merges with the flattened globular body. This is cut with a band of thumb or ‘printie’ cuts surmounting a band of cross-cut diamonds. The base is flat and star cut in the centre. It is unmarked.
The flattened discoid stopper is hollow and is star-cut on the apex. The neck of the jar and the peg of the hollow stopper are both ground to allow tight fitting.
It has a height (excluding the lid) of 9.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of 6.8cm and across the base of 6.1cm. It has a maximum height, including the lid, of 12.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 430g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some wear and tear scratches to the body and base commensurate with age and use.
