This is a charming and unusual souvenir plate from Weymouth, in Dorset, dating to the early 20th century.
The plate is round, with a very small step outwards from where the handles are situated. The rim, handle edges and centre ring of the plate are gilded. There is a transfer-printed image depicting the Weymouth pier and some ships surrounding the Weymouth Pavilion (or later the Ritz Theatre), which was originally built in 1908. This image has been handle coloured, and below it are the words ‘WEYMOUTH FROM THE NOTHE’.
The underside is plain and unmarked.
The plate has a maximum diameter (across the handles) of 22.9cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 340g.
It is in good condition, with some minor scratches to the design and glaze commensurate with age. There is also a small shallow chip on the reverse edge, which cannot be seen when displayed. This wear is reflected in the price.
