This is a nice example of a posy vase made under the trademark ‘E. Radford’ by H.J. Wood (Ltd) of Alexandra Pottery, Burslem.
The vase is short and globular; the base of the body is ringed and there is a thickened angular base. The rim is everted. The exterior is decorated with a stippled pale blue glaze, over which has been handpainted a floral motif, consisting of a sprig of blue flowers and their leaves and a sprig of red flowers and their foliage. On the side opposite this are some stylised leaves.
The base is impressed with the number ‘973’ and is printed with the words ‘MADE IN ENGLAND’. There are also handpainted initials in green, although these are not easily distinguishable.
It has a height of approximately 6.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 4.9cm and across the base of about 4.7cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 80g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although the glaze is finely crazed all over.
