This is a charming old stoneware dish, probably produced by the Bretby Brick & Stoneware Company.
The dish is shallow with a broad rim. It tapers in towards the discoid base, which is thickened. It is decorated with a concentric ring design which terminates outside the centre of the interior. On the exterior, it extends down to the edge of the base. The latter is plain and unmarked.
The body is glazed in pale pea green, with thinner areas of glaze showing the tan-coloured body underneath in areas.
Although it is unmarked, this style of decor and the ceramic body underneath is consistent with pieces of Bretby that are currently in stock.
It has a height of approximately 5.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 19.5cm and across the base of about 9.3cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 520g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some crazing to the glaze in areas where it is thickest, for example, the centre of the interior and above the base of the exterior.
