This is a highly attractive example of a decorative dish from the ‘Chrysanthemum’ range for ‘E. Radford’ by H.J. Wood (Ltd) of Alexandra Pottery, Burslem.
It is moulded in the form of a leaf, with impressed veins and part of the ‘stalk’. The piece is decorated with a pale mottled pink background, over which is a hand-painted motif of stylised chrysanthemums in red, mauve and yellow.
The base is marked with ‘E. RADFORD ENGLAND HANDPAINTED’ in calligraphic form. This particular mark was in use from 1935, although this piece is probably much later than this. In addition, it is marked with a ‘B’ and a further indecipherable symbol. These may be artists’ monograms.
It has a maximum length (including the stalk) of approximately 18.0cm and a maximum width of about 10.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 150g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
