This is a nice example of a posy holder made under the trademark ‘E. Radford’ by H.J. Wood (Ltd) of Alexandra Pottery, Burslem.
The posy is globular and tapers in towards the base. There is a central hole at the top, that is flanked by sixteen smaller holes. The body is tinted with a pale bluish-green, over which has been hand-painted an orange floral motif, with branches and leaves.
The base is marked with ‘E. RADFORD ENGLAND HANDPAINTED’ in calligraphic form. This particular mark was in use from 1935, although this is probably much later than this. In addition, it is marked ‘FX’ and ‘L’, which may be attributable to the painter. In addition, it is impressed with the pattern number ‘1019’.
It has a height of approximately 7.4cm, with a maximum diameter of about 13.5cm and a diameter across the base of about 8.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 320g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although the glaze is crazed in places.
