This is a nice example of a bud vase made under the trademark ‘E. Radford’ by H.J. Wood (Ltd) of Alexandra Pottery, Burslem.
The vase is of classic baluster shape, with an everted rim that tapers in to then widen out at the rounded body. This sits on a pedestal foot. The interior is stippled with a pale pink finish; the exterior is stippled with blue. In addition, it is hand-painted with a stylised pink cherry blossom motif. There is a smaller sprig of this on the reverse.
The base is impressed with the number ‘873’ and is printed with the words ‘MADE IN ENGLAND’.
It has a height of approximately 15.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.9cm and across the foot of about 6.1cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 220g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although the glaze is finely crazed all over.
