This is a high-quality lead crystal comport, designed by Frank Thrower for Dartington Crystal.
The comport has a capacious upper portion, which narrows as it approaches the thickened base and merges imperceptibly with the short, tapering stem. There is a globular collar at the junction of the stem and the plain, flat foot. The latter is unmarked.
The upper portion is moulded with a twisted ribbed effect known as ‘ripple’.
The piece has a height of approximately 13.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 16.0cm and across the foot of about 8.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 660g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some wear and tear scratches to the bowl and foot commensurate with use. There is one scratch in particular which is visible on close inspection. This wear is reflected in the price.
