Contemporary Earthenware Vase with Green and Blue Crackle Glaze

This is a handsome example of a contemporary hand-thrown decorative vase with Asian influence.

The piece is made from dark brown earthenware and is quite textured in places (grog). It has a slightly everted rim and then tapers down to form the elongated body. This sits on a narrow, discoid base that is recessed underneath.

It is decorated on the interior and most of the exterior with a randomly applied, blue-green glaze that has a deliberate crackle finish. Some of these cracks appear bigger in places but do not go through the body of the vase, and therefore are not considered damage. There are also numerous burst bubbles within this glazed portion.

On one side is a large round seal-like disc that has been impressed with the maker’s initials. Unfortunately, I have been unable to attribute this piece as yet.

It has a height of approximately 14.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 11.8cm and across the base of about 4.3cm.

It has an unwrapped weight of 320g.

It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
