This is a highly sought-after example of a sugar shaker from the ‘Spectrum’ range produced by T. G. Green in the 1970s.
The shaker has a cylindrical upper portion, which is pierced in a star shape at the top. There is a short, angular shoulder surmounting the broader cylindrical base. This is printed with the word ‘SUGAR’ in black on one side.
The base has an unglazed rim and retains the original red plastic bung.
The piece is marked on the inside, beneath the pierced section, with the words ‘MADE IN ENGLAND’, although this is not easily discernible.
It has a height of approximately 14.6cm, a diameter across the top of 5.7cm and across the base of about 7.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 390g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although the glaze has flooded one of the holes at the top (see pictures).
