This is a retro soup or breakfast bowl from the ‘Renaissance’ suite designed by Kathie Winkle for James Broadhurst & Sons.
The bowl is decorated with a geometric pattern. Below the rim is a motif consisting of alternating double scrolls and diamonds in black underglaze. The centre has a pattern incorporating these motifs with a combination of an outer ring of small circles with a central orange disc and a ‘cogwheel’ design. This surrounds a further central circular geometric design.
The bowl is marked on the underside with the words ‘BROADHURST ENGLAND IRONSTONE HANDPAINTED UNDERGLAZE COLOUR IS DETERGENT AND DISHWASHER PROOF RENAISSANCE’.
It has a height of approximately 4.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 15.5cm and across the base of about 5.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 230g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
