This is a highly attractive example of a vintage milk jug from the ‘Wayside’ suite by Roslyn China dating to the late 1950s or early 1960s.
The jug has a gently undulating rim and pulled spout with a gilded finish. The handle is of ornate scroll form with gilding to accentuate the curves. It is transfer printed on two sides with a quaint thatched cottage and garden motif that looks like an old watercolour painting. It sits on a plinth-like foot, which is gilded around the edge.
The underside is printed with the words ‘ROSLYN FINE BONE CHINA ENGLAND’; this is surmounted by the pattern name, ‘Wayside’. ‘Roslyn’ was a trade name for Reid & Co., based at the Park Place Works in Longton, Staffordshire. This particular mark was in use from 1958 to 1963 when the china works closed.
The jug has a maximum height of approximately 8.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.7cm and across the base of about 5.9cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 140g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
