This is a pair of high quality cut lead crystal wine goblets by Webb Corbett, pattern name unknown.
The capacious bowl is cut below the rim with a circumferential band consisting of nine large crosses. Each cross is surmounted by a three-pointed fan, and below the centre of each cross there is a vertical wedge cut. The diamond-shaped panel formed between adjacent crosses contains a lattice formed from two pairs of lines.
There is a collar at the junction of the bowl and the stem. The latter has a central ball knop. The foot is plain and marked in the centre with the words ‘WEBB CORBETT T MADE IN ENGLAND’.
This mark was in use from 1930 until 1947. However, the addition of the letter ‘T’ suggests that this piece was produced by the Tutbury factory between 1947 and 1949.
Each glass has a height of approximately 12.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.2cm and across the foot of about 5.6cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 190ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 360g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few enclosed bubbles in the bowls and feet. There is one burst bubble at the edge of the rim of one of the glasses; this is a manufacturing artefact.
