This is a handsome example of a lead crystal ice bucket from the ‘Duet’ range by Edinburgh Crystal.
The bucket is made from thick lead crystal and has two ‘lugs’ applied to the rim on opposite sides. The base is thickened and marked at the edge with the words ‘EDINBURGH CRYSTAL’, although this is hard to discern.
The body is cut with two rows of six interlocking crosses that form a lattice. The uppermost row of diamonds formed within the lattice is cut with a central cross, with elongated lower limbs that extend down into the diamond-shaped panels below to form a smaller cross. There is a circumferential wedge cut that bisects each small cross in the uppermost row of diamonds. These crosses are also overcut with a deep vertical wedge cut, which extends downwards to bisect the crosses in the lower row of the lattice. Four of the six crosses in the top row are surmounted by five-pointed fan cuts. The two crosses that sit below the lugs at the rim are undecorated.
It has a height of approximately 14.9cm, with a maximum width across the lugs at the rim of about 18.9cm and a diameter across the base of about 11.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1510g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some wear and tear scratches commensurate with use.
