Stuart Crystal ‘Shaftesbury’ Design Large Lead Crystal Petal Bowl (9”) No. 30706/199

This is a stunning, high-quality cut lead crystal petal bowl from the ‘Shaftesbury’ range produced by Stuart Crystal.

The bowl is made from thick lead crystal and has a scalloped rim. The body tapers in from the rim towards the thickened, star-cut base. The latter is marked at the edge with the words ‘STUART CRYSTAL’.

The body is cut in the lower half with three rows of interlocking crosses that diminish in size as they approach the base. The diamond-shaped panel formed between adjacent crosses is cut with a smaller cross. The peaks and troughs of the crosses in the uppermost row are surmounted by elongated vertical wedge cuts.

It has a height of approximately 13.6cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 23.0cm and across the base of about 10.4cm. According to the Stuart Crystal catalogue, this is the larger size of petal bowl available and has the product number ‘30706/199’.

It has an unwrapped weight of 3.4kg.

It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a number of wear and tear scratches to the base and a few on the sides commensurate with use.
